Ten flat bars made of copper, arranged side by side, protrude vertically from the ground outside of the Raiffeisenbank in Hard, Austria. The bars are pure copper, straight from the rolling mill without any artistic treatment. Firmly anchored in the ground in front of the bank, they serve as a repository of wealth and as a reference to the financial institution’s fundamental competencies: the safekeeping, securing, and investment of capital. The artist‘s concept stipulates that the sculpture must be dismantled after 15 years and the material sold at the current market value. It remains to be seen whether this will result in a profit or a loss; the only certainty is that the entire proceeds must be donated to a charitable institution in the region.
